Celebrating World Animal Day: Ritchies Commitment to Animal Welfare
World Animal Day is a special occasion to recognize the importance of protecting and caring for all creatures, great and small. At Ritchies Supermarkets, we believe that supporting animal welfare is not just a responsibility, but a privilege. Through our Community Benefits Program, we’ve been fortunate enough to donate funds to numerous animal-related organizations that make a real difference in the lives of animals across the country.
Our Community Benefits Program allows customers to nominate a charity or cause of their choice, and a percentage of their spend goes towards supporting that organization. Thanks to the generosity of our loyal customers, we’ve been able to assist many amazing animal welfare groups. Here are just a few examples of the good work we’ve been proud to support:
Wildlife Victoria
The generous contributions from Ritchies helps keep Wildlife Victoria's Emergency Response Service operating so that sick, injured, and orphaned animals can receive the help they need. The funds also go towards training new wildlife rescue volunteers and supporting the Wildlife Victoria Travelling Vet Service as they provide treatment to native species in rehabilitation and in field.
To date they have received $6,988.83 from Ritchies.
PetRescue
PetRescue is a national animal welfare charity like no other. In 2004, they launched the first national pet adoption website to help rescue pets, who may otherwise go unnoticed, find a new family to love for life. Today, their free programs and services continues to help millions of Australians discover the joy of adopting a new family member and helped more than 1,000 rescue organisations, shelters and pounds save the lives of thousands of rescue pets.

The money donated each month by Ritchies Community Benefit Program goes towards joey and critical care formula, medications and medical supplies.

Animal Welfare League Queensland
Animal Welfare League Queensland has 5 animal rehoming centres across South-East Queensland none of which receive government funding and all of which are only able to operate from the support we receive from our community. The funds we have received over the years from Ritchies through their community initiative has not only made a difference financially in supplying resources for our rehoming centres but has also contributed to spreading awareness of the work that we do and the animals waiting for adoption. We are forever appreciative of the support we receive from Ritchies as are the animals in our care.
